Workshop in Sofia

Outspeed Startup project partners came together in Bulgaria to carry out their fourth workshop. The workshop was held in Sofia on 16-17 October. Outspeed Startup project experts Bülent Gümüş,Gökçe Phiilips and Algın Erozan from PMI Turkey, Mihail Mihailov and Todor Todorov from PMI Bulgaria and Miha Lenic from PMI Slovenia participated in the workshop.

On the first day of the workshop, the whole team made an assessment of the progress of the project. Then, the project team was divided into groups and all groups worked on the Startup Project Management Practice Guide.

On the second day of the workshop, the project partners continued to work on the Practice Guide and also they planned the future events of the project.

As a result, during these two days, the project partners made plans for the practice guide which was planned to ıssue and they have decided to evaluate these in the next workshop.

Design Thinking Workshop in Sofia

Dr. Bülent Gümüş, Outspeed Startup Project Key Expert, held a Design Thinking workshop in Sofia, Bulgaria on 15 November 2019. Around 30 project managers and experts from various sectors attended the workshop.

Dr. Gümüş, after introducing the Outspeed Startup project at the beginning of the workshop, shared the fundamentals of product/service design and the design thinking approach. Dr. Gümüş mentioned about the stages of Design Thinking which are define, ideate, prototype and test in his presentation.

Workshop participants, later, worked on a simple hands-on project to “design the ideal wallet” using the Design Thinking principles. Participants learned the importance of getting “insights” about the customers, generating many ideas rather than only one idea and getting early and frequent feedback from the customers. They also understood the value of “showing” rather than “telling” the design solution to the customers to get better feedback.

The workshop was beneficial in terms of increasing the awareness of human-centered design approach and the importance of these types of approaches in the success of startups.

The Third Outspeed Startup Workshop Was Held In Istanbul

Outspeed Startup project partners met on 26-27 October in Istanbul for third workshop. Outspeed Startup project experts Bülent Gümüş, Gökçe Philips and Algın Erozan from PMI Turkey, Mihail Mihailov from PMI Bulgaria and Miha Lenic from PMI Slovenia participated in the workshop.

The project partners started the workshop by reviewing the progress of the project and they updated the risk analysis of the project. Then, the project team was divided into two groups to work on different chapters of the Startup Project Management Practice Guide. The first group was composed of Gökçe Phillips, Algın Erozan and Miha Lenic and the second group was composed of Bülent Gümüş and Mihail Mihailov.

The first group worked on the Planning phase of the practice guide and the second group worked on the Introduction chapter of the practice guide. At the end of the first day, a short review of the day’s work was performed, and next day’s plan was updated by the whole team.

On the second day of the workshop, the whole team worked together on Methodology, Canvas, Project Charter, Execution and Initiating of the practice guide.At the end of the workshop, the team discussed the next steps and updated the plan for the future events.

Project Management in the Entrepreneurship Ecosystem at Istanbul Technical University

Project Management in the Entrepreneurship Ecosystem was held on October 11 at Istanbul Technical University. Algın Erozan, project expert in Out Speed Startup Project, made a presentation about it.

Algın Erozan talked about concepts in startup ecosystem, opportunities and challenges which was created by startup ecosystem. He also mentioned few PM tools such as Risk Management, PERT and Stakeholder Management.

Startups and incubator managers participated in the event.Thus, they were informed that project management can be an important factor in startups success. Algın Erozan also touched on the main problems faced by startups  and they mostly agreed on risk management, access to smart money and identifying the work packages being the main issues faced by the startups.

The event was helpful in terms of increasing the awareness of the startups in project management and participants were very pleased to learn about project management.
